This morning I wake up to the News story "Woman pretends to be Deaf for Nine Months..." all so she could keep her boyfriend!!!
As if we with disabilities don't have enough challenges as is, we have able-bodied idiots faking it!
Anything from stupid teenagers parking in a handicapped parking spot, then faking a limp into the store, giggling; to online websites selling fake guide dog harnesses and vests so your "pet" can be with you at all times.
Yes, you can get a fake guide dog harness so "Fifi" can go with you into your favorite restaurant and not be questioned! Business owners are usually hesitant to question the authenticity of these for fear of lawsuits. It's pretty easy to spot 'em, the dog that runs around sniffing everyone's crotch and craps on the floor is NOT a guide dog! Can you help stop this by signing this Petition please?
Then there are those people who fake disabilities and injuries so they can collect Disability Insurance or Worker's Comp. Don't they know that when they do this, it costs everyone else? Whether it's through taxes, or in cost of products and services from companies because they had to cover the cost somewhere.
The more this happens, the less credibility people with disabilities receive. It's that simple, Such as the story of the Blind man pulled off a plane, arrested and accused of faking his blindness!!
I will never apologize for being Deafblind, but I'm sure as hell tired of defending it!
