Memories Monday's post is about my first experience with Music.
Music??
I was mainstreamed into the public school when I started kindergarten. In class the teacher herded us all into a corner and made us sit on the mat. She then proceeded to push these black and white slats on a wooden box and noise was emanating from it. All the other kids started to make noise too, I sat there bewildered looking from kid to kid. I couldn't figure out why all the kids matched each other with their noise.
Afterwards I was escorted to another classroom for kids with hearing loss to learn speech and hearing skills. I described to my teacher the "weird trance" the kids in the other classroom were in. She explained to me that the wooden box was a piano and it makes music, and the kids were singing songs.
Music? Singing? Songs? These were all foreign concepts to me!
Now who'd think that almost 40 years later, I'm hardly without my headphones, or the radio playing away for this musicholic!
